When I heard that 4 years ago, I made a promise to myself that I would be there.
Since my youth, the Olympics always had a mystical quality. They were always beyond anything "regular" sports could be.
They were a period where the whole world stopped, made peace and watched as young athletes gave their all in their quest for the gold.
Awesome.
And these games, these will be the greatest games of all. Their birthplace. Athens in 2004.
My bags are packed, things to do are crossed off my list, and my tickets, the ones I bought years ago, are nestled safely in my carry-on.
As I write, my eyes are heavy with my own preparations. Taking care of my needs, my business, my amateur world before I go.
I hope that you, and yours, and the rest of the World will be viewing Friday night at 8PM to share in the splendor of the Opening Ceremonies.
The World is waiting. Athens is ready.
Look for me. I'll be the one with the big eyes!
